THE BIO

Ashley Wilburn, a native of Hagerstown, Maryland, proudly is a graduate of North Hagerstown High School, where she completed her secondary education. With a deep-rooted passion for family law, Ashley's current legal practice revolves around various aspects of family matters. She concentrates a large portion of her practice on divorce cases, alimony disputes, property distribution in marital relationships child custody battles child support arrangements, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, post-divorce enforcement issues including step-parent and private parties adoptions as well as concerns about child welfare. In addition to family law, Ashley also handles estate planning matters, including trusts, wills and probate and estate administration as well as commercial contracts, civil litigation cases. Ashley has served a court-appointed mediator since 2019 helping parties to help them resolve their matters without need for litigation and court involvement. In addition to mediations that are court-appointed, Ashley also mediates in private cases for people who want to stay clear of the litigation and court process.

Ashley completed her undergraduate studies in History and Politics at Loyola University of Maryland. She continued her legal education at Western New England University School of Law. In 2013, she graduated, and excelled academically, securing a spot among the top 10 students in her class. Ashley was an editor at the Western New England Law Review during her time in law school. This demonstrates her dedication to scholarship and legal research.

Following the completion of her law degree, Ashley embarked on a clerkship, working for distinguished jurists in Connecticut and Maryland. She had the pleasure of being a law assistant for the Honorable Richard A. Robinson and the Honorable Elliott D. Prescott at the Connecticut Appellate Court. Subsequently, in 2014, she returned home to her hometown of Hagerstown to be a clerk for Honorable M. Kenneth Long at the Washington County Circuit Court, deepening her understanding of the local legal landscape. Learn more about Ashley Wilburn

In 2015, Ashley joined the esteemed law firm of Poole & Kane, P.A. as an associate attorney. The primary goal of the firm was to represent the Washington County Department of Social Services in matters that involved child welfare. Ashley's dedicated efforts played a significant role in helping children who suffered abuse or negligence at the hands their parents or caregivers. Her commitment to tackling social injustice extended beyond her legal career when she was a member of the Washington County Human Trafficking Task Force. She worked tirelessly to raise awareness about human trafficking within the tri-state region.

In 2017, she was a founding member of Kane, Wilburn & Stone, P.A., and established her practice in family law – divorce, custody, child maintenance and guardianships – as well as financial and estate planning - wills, trusts and powers of attorney, advance directives/healthcare proxy – and mediation.

Ashley created Wilburn Law Office, LLC 2023, with the intention of providing an individual approach to each client's need.
